Fibrous Malachite - Katanga Province Democratic Republic of Congo - MS-2754a
Also known as as Chatoyant, Velvet, or crystalline Malachite. Truly unusual specimen:
- The vast majority of Malachite forms as a secondary mineral. That is, from the breakdown of other copper-bearing minerals
- When Malachite forms as a primary, crystalline, mineral; the crystals are needle-like.
- When closely-packed like these, they reflect light individually, but as almost parallel rods; like fiber-optics.
The yellow cube is a typical boullion-cube included for size reference only. Specimen measures about 7cm x 4cm x 3cm. Recommend a small USPS flat-rate box. Please contact us for combined shipping.
